1.4$ Trillion India’s Black Money Stashed in Swiss Banks

According to the data provided by the Swiss bank, India has more black money than rest of the world combined. India topping the list with almost $1500 Billion black money in swiss banks, followed by Russia $470 Billion, UK $390 Billion, Ukraine $100 Billion and China with $96 Billion.

It’s embarrassing for any country to top the list of black money holders. The money which belongs to the nation and it’s citizens, is stashed in the illegal personal accounts of corrupt politicians, IRS, IPS officers and industrialists. An amount which is 13 times larger than the nations foreign debt. Every year this amount is increasing at a rapid speed but the Indian government seem to be silent over this matter from a very long time. The total black money accounts for 40% of GDP of India, if all the money comes back to India then that could result in huge growth burst for India.
A nation where more than 450 million live below the poverty line, which means they make less than $1.25/day and could probably use an easy cash advances from somebody. By bringing back the black money back to the country there is so much which can be done for the development of the nation and the people who live below poverty line. India will also be able to clear all their foreign debts in 24Hrs. Even if all the taxes are abolished, the government can maintain the country easily for 30 years.

It’s been found that about 80 thousand people travel to Switzerland every year of whom around 25 thousand travel frequently. Those travelling on regular basis must be doing it for some reason.
The Indian government needs to take some serious steps to get the money back to India which is stashed in Swiss banks. They should work to find out the names of account holders in Swiss banks and also pressurize Swiss bank to get the black money back to the country. This has also become a matter of pride of nation and if the government still keeps silence about this issue then they will only be making themselves a laughing stock for the entire world.

Girls in a tech world

Did you know? Only 11% of computer science (CS) undergraduate degree recipients in 2009 at major research universities were women. And, between 2000 and 2009, there has been a 79% decline in the number of first-year undergraduate women who say they are interested in majoring in CS. As a BOLD intern on the K-12 education outreach team this summer, one of my projects was to create a video that inspires girls to pursue CS. With the help of two other K-12 interns (Jackie Palma & Tessa Pompa) and our on-campus film studio, we produced “Girls in a Tech World: Endless Possibilities of Computer Science”.

Google wanted to reach girls of all ages, not just those who are in the midst of choosing a major. Research shows that girls have many inaccurate stereotypes about CS that begin long before they reach college and also that they are rarely encouraged to pursue CS.
To cast the video, we sought out charismatic young women engineers at Google. Often, the way engineers are depicted in the media serves as a discouraging factor because girls look at the characters and think, “That doesn’t look like me …”—we wanted them to see role models who do look like themselves.
Google recently pre-screened the video to a diverse group of 13-year old girls. They told us they found the video empowering and inspiring, which gave Google the confidence and encouragement to post the video on YouTube and circulate it widely.
Check out “Girls in a Tech World” to hear awesome female engineers talking about why they love their jobs and their advice for you. We hope that this video will inspire girls all over the world, especially those who may have had misconceptions or felt discouraged about CS. Enjoy, and please pass it along!

NASA releases web app to take you to space

NASA's released a method for you to play around in space right from your living room. They've launched their 'Eyes on the Solar System' 3D environment, which is a web-based browser application that provides a 3D version of the solar system for you to venture in. The app uses video game technology, which lets you control what you're seeing, or your point of view, from anywhere in the solar system, it speeds up time so you can see how the planets move (rotation and revolution), you can see planetary satellites and NASA spacecraft.

NASA's app lets you control space and time
You need to download the Eyes on the Solar System web app (click here for download). You need to have downloaded the Unity Web Player for Mac and PC in order to use the app. Once that's done, you can venture out to space, flying around the sun, the planets and asteroids, controlling space and time. NASA has also created custom modules which highlight their missions, such as Juno, the probe that was launched recently and is on a five year mission to Jupiter. You can also keep track of the locations of NASA's current spacecraft with NASA's actual mission data.
“This is the first time the public has been able to see the entire solar system and our missions moving together in real time,” said Jim Green, director of NASA’s Planetary Science Division at the agency’s Headquarters in Washington. “It demonstrates NASA’s continued commitment to share our science with everyone.”

Nokia Brand new Icons for smartphones

A few weeks ago we unveiled our new brand typeface - Nokia Pure. In some of the comments around the type we mentioned that it was only the first example of a broader body of design work we have been focused on and the first manifestation of a new brand language that has been holistically designed.
Today we are happy to reveal our new Nokia iconography, first unveiled running on the new Symbian Anna operating system and the new Nokia X7 and Nokia E6 smartphones.
A shared origin
The new icons and the typeface have been designed very closely together, and are the first building blocks of a new identity system. Both share the same design philosophy of simple, flowing forms and the minimum amount of detail necessary for their function. In fact, one of the initial inspirations for creating the Nokia Pure typeface was the new icon system the digital identity team in Nokia Design was working on.
The new icons are a remarkably different design challenge compared to the typeface. While the new typeface was designed for reading pleasure and neutrality in appearance, the new icons are designed for immediate and universal recognition and distinction. They act as the signposts people using Nokia products will come to recognize and act on.
The new icon system been designed to accommodate applications created by Nokia and third parties alike, allowing each application to manifest its own identity, but retaining a signature form of Nokia friendliness. No surface materials or treatments are enforced as default, but materials such as glass can be used when relevant to the application metaphor - such as the lens in the Camera. The colours for default applications have been carefully selected for immediate recognition, and the metaphors have been rigorously tested.

Windows 8 to have Hybrid Boot Process, 2 Sec

Slow Windows booting has been main point of argument from Mac & Linux users but it looks things will change with Windows 8.

Microsoft’s Gabe Aul has discussed about Windows 8 booting process. As per Aul, Microsoft has made a leap in Windows 8 booting by significantly reducing boot time compared to past Windows versions. Microsoft has designed Windows 8 in such way that users won’t need to boot Windows 8 frequently and even if you need to, then it should be as fast as possible.

In Windows 8 Microsoft has developed a new fast startup mode which is a hybrid of traditional cold boot and resuming from hibernate. In Windows 8 user sessions are closed instead of closing the kernel session and then system is entered into hibernate mode compared to a full hibernate, which includes a lot of memory pages in use by apps, session 0 hibernation data is much smaller, which takes substantially less time to write to disk. Using this technique with boot gives Windows 8 a significant advantage for boot times.

To realize how fast Windows 8 booting is, here is demo video published Microsoft, depicting Windows 8 laptop booting in roughly two seconds after press power button.

Opera Mini 6.5 & Opera Mobile 11.5 are now available for Download.

Opera Mini 6.5 & Opera Mobile 11.5, is now available for Download on Android, iOS, S60, S40, J2ME and BlackBerry platforms.

Opera Mobile is a full browser with client-side support for JavaScript, HTML5, Flash (Android only) and more. In Opera Mini, the browser engine is running on Opera's servers. Web pages are transcoded and compressed up to 90% before being downloaded to the device, making Opera Mini lightning fast and also much cheaper if you are paying per megabyte.

The updates come three weeks after Opera released Opera Mini 6.5 for Android, and the changes are pretty much the same, the most important being a counter that shows you exactly how much data you have spent and saved (via Opera’s website compression technology) using Opera Mini.

The main difference between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini is that Mini uses less data to load Web sites. "There are computers located in cool locations such as Iceland that squeeze the webpages down before sending them in smaller (and thereby cheaper) packages to your phone," according to Opera. Opera Mobile has this option too, but it can be turned on and off, like the Turbo feature in the desktop version.

The Web is what I do:

Opera is pushing its mobile browsers as a way for you to keep tabs on your data usage, especially as more and more wireless providers ditch unlimited data plans. Opera Mobile 11.5 and Mini 6.5 both include a data tracker located in the Help menu.

Opera has also put a global counter on its homepage, showing how much data all its users have saved since Nov. 2, 2011. The counter currently stands at over 265 terabytes

Downlaod for: Android Market. Nokia Store, Apple App Store.
